This is an introduction to the yoga poses that were found to be effective at maintaining and building bone health as a result of a long term study done by Loren Fishman, MD. The poses are practiced at a level that makes them accessible to all. It's perfect for those recovering from illness or injury, or anyone looking for a more gentle version of the classes described below.
Introduction to Bone Health

50% of woman over 50 will experience an osteoporotic fracture, usually from falls, whether diagnosed with bone thinning or not. Based on a long term study demonstrating that practicing specific yoga poses consistently over time can slow the loss of bone density caused by osteoporosis or osteopenia, this class teaches the three sets of poses taught in the Fishman Method to improve bone health. For more information about the study and the Fishman Method, go to sciatica.org. Each set of poses targets high risk areas for fracture in those with weak bones: hips, femur, spine, wrists and ribs. The poses are offered at different levels of difficulty, so that everyone can practice safely, regardless of yoga experience.
